Hands-on Training on Medical Device Prototyping
The programme on ‘Medical Device Prototyping’ shall be conducted by Imagineering Laboratory, IIT Kanpur. The laboratory is a central facility for innovation concept design and product realization at IIT Kanpur. The Imagineering lab houses state of the art CAD and CAM tools with latest capabilities in shape acquisition, modelling and prototyping. They have helped in radically expanding the domain of geometric shapes that can be realized for any product. The processes of design, simulation and manufacturing are integrated into a digital environment. The facility also provides infrastructure for sponsored research and industrial consultancy. Recently, MedTech Facility has started to develop with the laboratory with an aim to cater the needs of developing medical devices and products. This includes the whole arc of the product development, from an idea to converting into a commercializable product. The laboratory is truly the right place in the country to conduct the course on Medical Devices Prototyping.
In the medical implements and devices, there is a requirement for optimum utilization of scarce resources and to bring product to the market in short time. Medical device prototyping is fundamental to the medical product design and development process. It is utmost important for students, researchers and manufacturers working in the areas of health technology equipment, products and systems. Creating early samples of the health technology products gives an opportunity to test and evaluate the concept and work on further improvement. The trainees will study the basics of Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing. They will be conversant with the methods to analyse and implement the results of testing to ensure that the prototype is best developed. The kind of training is imperative to be organized for the prospective practitioners in medical devices.
